James Johnson

Year-Long Missionary Intern

Meet James, our year-long intern! He joined the camp crew at the start of September 2024. James’ camp journey began in the summer of 2022 when he volunteered as a counselor. He always finds joy from getting to see the warmth and openness shown by the people that come. As well as getting the opportunity to serve others and desire for greater involvement. Over the past year, he actively participated in our Weekend Getaways, workdays, and was a Summer Intern during summer camp. Now, he has taken a significant jump by becoming a part of the camp family as a year-long intern.

In his role as an intern, James will reside with fellow staff members in the upstairs of the Hartley House. His responsibilities will include assisting with hosting guest groups, facilitating Weekend Getaways and summer camps, coaching Crivitz Special Olympics, and maintaining the camp’s buildings and grounds. James will also be attending NWTC a couple days a week to pursue becoming a Registered Nurse. Throughout these endeavors, he will gain valuable insights into non-profit work, disability advocacy, leadership, and the essence of being a missionary within the disability subculture.

The missionary aspect of being a year-long intern constitutes a significant component of his growth and experience during this period. At Camp Daniel, all staff members are dedicated missionaries to individuals with disabilities. Similar to many missionaries, James will be seeking to raise $600 in monthly financial support to cover expenses such as rent, food, transportation, and other essential needs. He humbly requests your consideration for financial support, whether it’s a contribution of $10, $20, $50, or $100 per month. Your generosity will play a pivotal role in enabling him to fulfill this meaningful mission.
